What is the suggested workflow?

Postby snortch » Tue Jun 16, 2009 1:53 pm

After watching the instructional videos, the workflow for ProtoShare is somewhat confusing. Here's what I've gathered so far:

1. You create an interactive wireframe with low visual fidelity so as to not distract the client with too much eye candy.
2. Client team comments on the wireframe which demonstrates site flow and basic layout.
3. Once the wireframe has gone through a few review and refine rounds, static 'high visual fidelity' comps are created.

is this the suggested workflow? Does protoshare work best if interactive wireframes are kept simple, meaning that you should not attempt to polish the prototype beyond the typical gray box and default buttons or are people attempting to create high visual fidelity along with interactivity inside their protoshare wireframes?

I have more questions, but will attempt to put them in the correct thread.

I would agree that the workflow you've outline is how we see the prototyping cycle in relation to ProtoShare.

ProtoShare is geared towards promoting communication between developers and clients / users and ensuring that the design of their system is how everyone envisions it. Developers then can take those discussions and the basic design and create their live site. Screenshots can be uploaded as comps to further discussion or to show a final design.

How polished you make your wireframes is entirely up to you. You can either use the simpler is better method or include SWFs, images, rich-text components, and custom CSS to increase the fidelity.

Hello

Maybe it would be an idea to have a section on this forum were we can share resources like template, clippings or other files that can help us use protoshare in a good way. Maybe the admins can comment if this is idea and also technical possoble. If help is needed to maintain this section I am glad to help since this might enhance our common goals.

Hope to get some feedback on this

Thanks for the suggestion.

It may be possible to add another section for sharing resources, but it could end up being limited due to how the forums work. While files can be added as attachments to posts, multiple files would need to be zipped first and some users are weary of downloaded zips without knowing the exact contents. We would also need to have a staff member verify each file to ensure that it does not break any designs.

We have discussed a more mainstream approach by adding a shared library that you can link to for other users, but it is not on the roadmap at this time.

We will look into adding another forum section for sharing if it is possible.
